Why America Cares
Analysis of: Ehud Olmert took thousands of dollars, US businessman tells court (www.guardian.co.uk)
Olmert's actions as the top political officer in Israel makes news across the world, and perhaps, especially in America for several reasons: 1) As America's best (and arguable only) ally in the region, Israel is crucial to our interests and 2) The American jewish population, with an interest in Israel, are a marketplace for Israeli news, products, etc.
Analysis of: McCain economic policy shaped by lobbyist (www.msnbc.msn.com)
Not a single US president has been an expert in any socio-economic item in the history of USA; they were all just  "politicians." Ike, was a so-so  military strategist and Reagan a so-so actor. Most of them, in the recent history,  knew nothing about the world outside the US -- the winning  in these "sweepstakes of silliness" was probably evenly distributed...

Analysis of: Buyout of Penn National May Involve Revised Terms (www.nytimes.com)
Besides the short-term financials, there are good reasons for the deal to be completed.  One item that has not been mentioned in the news coverage is that gaming regulators hate being misled, and the gaming industry is fairly small.  If Fortress or its banks back out completely, they will find it very difficult to buy another gaming company, which are always inviting targets due to...

Analysis of: Split High Court Finds ADEA Provides Retaliation Protection (www.lexisone.com)
The ADEA federal & private sector provisions may have had some questions remain regarding the viability of retaliation for age discrimination suits, but apparently not any longer!Employers will have to scrutinize release of any employees who had or have suits pending for age discrimination.
Analysis of: Billions wasted on UN climate programme (www.guardian.co.uk)
The UN's anti-science, anti-technology policies exacerbate global warming and water shortages.  The poorest of the poor are most affected.
Analysis of: Lawmakers Call On Companies to Curb Dug Ads (news.yahoo.com)
The FDA is poorly managed and overly risk averse, resulting in skyrocketing drug development costs and fewer approvals.  Congressional oversight, increasingly negatively disposed toward the pharmaceutical industry, is a stimulus to this trend.

Analysis of: Working against consumers: Federal agencies have been quietly restricting product liability lawsuits (www.lasvegassun.com)
Will federal preemption be used as a shield from liability for drug companies and many other entities? Is Federal protection becoming an oxymoron?

Analysis of: Foreign investment in Russia shrinks by almost 30% (www.rbcnews.com)
The fact that the numbers show a 29.9% drop in FDI into Russia for Q! 2008 should not be of concern, much less of interest.  Savvy Russia watchers know that the low hanging fruit has long since been plucked, and the mega investments face stiff competition from Russian capital.  And the ruble has gained at least 25% against the dollar over the past 5 years. Opportunities arise for different...

Analysis of: Billions wasted on UN climate programme (www.guardian.co.uk)
Recent reports provide fuel for the claim that billions of dollars spent subsidising projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries are being 'wasted', because projects would have gone ahead anyway. The underlying facts are essentially correct, but readers should beware drawing hasty conclusions. There are good reasons why some existing projects and projects which are implemented...
