The story presented by CBS recently is a great illustration on why no one outside the industry seems to be aware of our growing crisis. Unfortunately food production, fisheries and more directly the farmed salmon industry does not garner the headlines. Well not yet, although they do at times, when it is not a crisis but a catastrophe. I believe we could be close to that catastrophe. The population needs to start paying closer attention to the ever worsening developments in our food chain.

CEO Larry Nichols of Devon Energy said that the sale of some Gulf of Mexico projects will be complete next year. Major oil companies are likely to be the main bidders. The company's data room received interest from international and national oil companies. So far the company is not in talks that would lead to deals with anybody including the Chinese. China's Cnooc is thought to be in talks with StatoilHydro for Gulf of Mexico prospects. Kaskida, St. Malo, Jack and Cascade are to be sold.

The American Petroleum Institute released figures showing that crude stocks in the United States rose by 3.8 million barrels, exceeding the forecast easing market pressures.This has moved the price of crude down to $78, which can have beneficial effects on both the US and global economies. Continuing upward pressure on market price could seriously and negatively impact economic recovery.However there are still predictions that producing nations would be comfortable with higher crude prices.
