Appliances drive Sears.
Analysis of: Sear's Profits Fall 62% In Second Quarter (www.chicagobusiness.com)
Bottom line is Sears goes as their appliance business goes.  with weakened demand and increased pressure from Lowe's and Depot there is no turnaround in sight. 5 years there will be lots of mall real estate available.  Sears customers are dying and attracting new customers is not in scope with their current format.

Look at the competition
Analysis of: GM recalling 944,000 vehicles (www.forbes.com)
More negative news for one of America's largest corporations.    GM has been improving quality all the time. People think, "Oh, Japanese cars are better".   Look at the recalls from Toyota, Nissan and Honda.  They have their share of recalls.   It's a shame that GM will take the brunt of this due to incompetent suppliers.  As usual, they'll...

Terrible PR
Analysis of: GM Sues to Recoup $450K in Employee Discounts (www.forbes.com)
When GM is offering "employee discounts" to everyone, this seems like a terrible PR move.  I mean, seriously $450K is hardly a footnote on GM's balance sheet.  As a former Congressional Hill staff member, I can tell you that this will not play well when GM asks to be bailed out.

Analysis of: Maker of Snickers and M&Ms is raising prices (www.msnbc.msn.com)
After the 12% rise in single candy bars earlier this year, the leaders in the candy market have raised prices on other parts of the line.  As most of the seasonal business had already been presented to major customers, some of the products will not go up until after the holidays have past; Halloween, Christmas, Valentines and Easter.

Analysis of: Carmakers Deserve Loan Guarantees, G.M. Official Says (www.nytimes.com)
There are other mechanisms to achieve where GM, Ford, and Chrysler need to be in terms of technology and product. The loans will be little more than a taxpayer funded bailout. GM, Ford, and Chrylser have not learned from the ample lessons they have had in the past, what assurances are there that they will this time.
