Analysis of: Samsung Electronics sees DRAM recovery, strong phone sales (www.eetimes.com)
It is so very difficult to predict what’s happening with the DRAM market. Memory in general over the last few years have seen their ups and downs, more downs than up, I would say. I would agree with the fact that the DRAM market downturn is at the end of the cycle and we should see DRAM prices move upwards.
Analysis of: Crazy Little Thing Called Risk (www.nytimes.com)
The  referred  article  contains  an  interesting anecdote  and  brings  to  my mind  the  conundrums that  companies  are  going  to  face  in  the  valuation  of  financial  assets  and  liabilities  in  the  context  of  SFAS 157  which  views...

Credit & the Consumer
Analysis of: Credit & The Consumer (www.maxkapital.com)
The article looks at the potential exposure in the credit market & contemplates additional exposure which could arise because of a risk to consumer spending which would cause a contraction in GDP.
Analysis of: Micron marks entry into SSD Market with 3 form factors (www.edn.com)
Micron is late in entering this market and companies like Sandisk and Samsung already control the lion’s share of the market. Micron’s products do have some benefits or at least per their claim , i.e of low power consumption and increased reliability. This will eventually benefit the consumer as prices will fall in-lieu of the increased competition.
Analysis of: Nuplex Picks Verizon Biz (www.lightreading.com)
Based on the past, I can categorically say that Voyager is not going to be a threat to the iPhone or the Blackeberry. It is good at best but nowhere near the its competition. Verizon should stick with what they know best (FIOS) to get more customers.
Analysis of: Avoid Value Destruction at HSBC (www.maxkapital.com)
The article discusses the value destruction which will occur because the bail out of the SIV will fail to allow proper price discovery of the debt portfolio acquired.
Analysis of: Zander Steps Aside as Motorola CEO, But Stays on As Chairman (www.crn.com)
Ed Zander’s leaving Motorola may be just what the company needs. Motorola has on several times in the past come back with a vengeance and grown to new heights. Greg Brown is going to strive for just that over the years to come.
Analysis of: Accounting for Gift Cards (www.aicpa.org)
- Recognition of relevant costs at the time of Gift Cards sales  - Deferment of corresponding revenue until redemption - Gross Margin are distorted - Uneven sales values in different periods when eventually breakages are     recognized with no specific coherent revenue recognition policy
Analysis of: In Major Projects, Agreeing Not To Disagree (www.nytimes.com)
1. Plan sponsors should take a leadership role in promoting best practices and good pension governance. 2. Pension fiduciaries should embrace accountability and transparency. 3. Arguments against excessive government regulation apply today as well as they did fifty years ago when Atlas Shrugged was written.
Analysis of: Citi Sells Stake to Abu Dhabi Fund (biz.yahoo.com)
With Prince stepping down, Citibank should be able to regain its glory, albeit in a few years. This year has been particularily hard on Citi and rightly so. The sub-prime mess has affected everyone with the exception of GS and that too is an unknown at this point in time. This infusion of capital is very timely and Citi is poised for regrowth. One of the attractive things about Citi has been its dividend...
