Council Member Biography

Walter Mitchell is the Principal of Mitchell Consulting Group, which provides rigorous research, analysis and advisory services for stakeholders in the US and international maritime industries. Mr. Mitchell has over 30 years of experience working for clients in the minerals, oil and chemicals, ports, break bulk cargo, inland waterways, offshore barge and marine finance sectors. He has high-level experience with seaborne trade analysis, vessel rates and values, shipping markets, and deal support. His clients including OPEC producers, mining houses, investment banks and ship owners. Following sea service on merchant and naval vessels, Mr. Mitchell was 6 years with BHP-Utah Minerals (now BHP-Billiton) in San Francisco, and 7 years at Jones Bardelmeier Company in Nassau, Bahamas. He is a member, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers-London, is widely published in the maritime field, and holds several corporate directorships.
