Steven Miller, MSPharm, DPH, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of SJM Enterprises, a multi-faceted consumer-response organization, specializing in workers compensation, medication therapy management, and managed care pharmaceutical reimbursement issues, where he is working since February 2007. Dr. Miller is a consultant to retail pharmacy organizations. He has served as the Director of Pharmacy at Coventry Health Care, concentrating on workers compensation, and is experienced in utilization review and formulary development that has led him to consulting in the U.S. and U.K. Dr. Miller is also experienced in appeal management (as an expert witness in many ALJ cases), pharmacy benefit design, and provider education. He is licensed to practice in four states and has worked with HMOs, PPOs, IPAs, and other managed care organizations. Dr. Miller has consulted with state pharmacy elderly programs, Medicaid programs, and national employers, and has made presentations on pharmacy benefit management to pharma companies and pharmacy groups since 1983. Another extended release, financial-benefit drug? This is surely a high-tier, high co-pay dosage form that won't significantly benefit the bottom line. Medicaid managed care plans will require prior authorization with numerous attempts at other, less expensive agents required. Costs in the entire class are high enough and continuing to spiral out of control, and a "me-too" agent is not going to help, despite the "benefit" of once-a-day dosing.
