Dr. Sopon Pornchokchai

Council Member Biography

Sopon Pornchokchai, PhD, is the President of Agency for Real Estate Affairs Company Limited (AREA) in Bangkok, Thailand. AREA is an independent property consultancy specializing in valuation, survey, research and information services. Dr. Pornchokchai is also the President of the Thai Appraisal Foundation in Thailand. Thai Appraisal Foundation is a non-profit organization operating under Thai Law administered by the Ministries of Interior and Education specializing in developing standards for property valuation and appraisal and urban land studies. He has over 24 years of experience in real estate research and valuation. Dr. Pornchokchai holds a PhD in land and housing from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). He is an experienced valuer and lecturer on valuation at the undergraduate and graduate levels and in training courses in Thailand and abroad. Dr. Pornchokchai has written research papers related to the real estate industry in Thailand including The Discovery of 1,020 Slums (1985), CAMA (Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal) Modeling (1990), Forecast of 300,000 Unoccupied Housing Units (1995 and 1998), Study for Property Information Centre (2000) and Land Value Modeling (2002).
