Robert Lavet is a Principal with Powers, Pyles, Sutter & Verville, a Washington, DC law firm with practices in health care and education. Prior to joining Powers, Pyles, Sutter & Verville, Mr. Lavet was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Sallie Mae from 2005 until 2008 and has held various positions since 1992. He has substantial experience in managing and defending bet the company type litigation as well as government investigations. Before joining Sallie Mae, Mr. Lavet was a partner at Cole Corette & Abrutyn. Before that, he had been an associate at Howrey & Simon and also served a three-year stint as a trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice. Mr. Lavet was a member of the board of directors of the Association of Corporate Counsel from 2002-2008 and served as President of the Washington Metropolitan Area Corporate Counsel Association in 2001.
