Council Member Biography

Robert F. Christin is Of Counsel at Van Ness Feldman in Washington, DC. Mr. Christin’s practice areas include Natural Gas and LNG. He previously worked for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for over 25 years. Mr. Christin advises clients on issues related to FERC jurisdiction over the natural gas industry, including matters under the Natural Gas Act, Natural Gas Policy Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other relevant statutes. Mr. Christin served as FERC’s Associate General Counsel for Energy Projects. In this position, he was responsible for the preparation of draft orders and rules for gas certificate and hydroelectric licensing cases and supervised the preparation of orders disposing of all major pipeline, storage, and LNG cases. He also acted as an informational resource for congressional staff, the press, and industry representatives. As FERC’s Assistant General Counsel for Pipeline Certificates, Mr Christin oversaw the development of the Commission’s draft orders and regulations addressing pipeline certificates as well as prepared comments on congressional legislation affecting the regulation of natural gas pipelines.
