Haven't physicians been lending "no-interest" money to payers and patients all along?

Doctors Offering No-Interest Loans to Patients | www.nytimes.com

Does anyone else remember the time when your Mother would take you to the Dr. as a child? You'd sit on his knee, have a nice chat, get a shot or other, pick up your lollipop and say goodbye. Not even a copay was exchanged and the practice manager would say, "Don't worry, we'll file all the paperwork for you." Even the deductible or co-insurance was often forgiven. Meanwhile, the insurance company would be sitting on the premium float for a good 90 days or so with the physician having lent the money "interest free" to Blue Cross. Looks like what's old is now being considered new again. Or, is there a twist?
