Rathi Dasgupta, a Blue Ocean Strategist (INSEAD) is the Managing Partner of Mira Consulting, an outsourcing consulting firm. He is also an Executive Coach for IT services and BPO and Captive Offshore Chief Executive Officer’s. He consults with US and Europe based companies on IT, BPO outsourcing, and off shoring strategy. He also advises offshore captives on managing existing vendors, delivery and quality processes. A former enterprise architecture specialist, he is an expert in the domain areas of telecom, retail & CPG, healthcare and insurance. Previously, Dr. Dasgupta was the Managing Director at Intec Telecom Systems and Vice President at Target, First Apex Technologies, and Office Tiger, Practice Head at Wipro, Engineering Head at Sun. He also held management positions at PwC, Soros USA, Cambridge, Sharp, i2, Xansa UK. He was part of the start up team in Target Corporation in India and SUN Microsystems. Outsourcing is the trend of the hour. It is mostly done to take advantage of wages cost arbritage. This processes is possible because disparity in values of different country currencies. Appreciation of Indian Rupee against US Dollar by an unprecedented percentage of 12%, has threatend the exporter in India. The profit margin for exporter to retailer has been completely eaten up by this appreciation. The fastest growing industry - IT & IT enabled services are also affected by the same, their profit margin has come down from 30% to 18 to 20%. IT organizations are thinking of introducing a six day week, increase daily billable hours and also change the resource loading by putting higher percentage of low cost employees. The last measure will affect the delivery quality.
