Peter Umhofer

Peter Umhofer is the Senior Director of Government Affairs at Kanner and Associates, LLC in Washington, DC, a government relations consulting firm specializing on energy and environmental policy issues, including climate change, renewable energy, clean energy tax credits, federal power policies, and environmental initiatives and regulations. Previously, Mr. Umhofer worked in the U.S. Senate for five years, serving as the top advisor on energy and environmental issues to Senator Harry Reid and policy advisor to Senator Tom Daschle. In this capacity, he prepared legislative and communications strategy, drafted legislation, and was a key player in the successful crafting of a bipartisan energy policy bill as well as successfully advancing a number of key projects through the appropriations process. Mr. Umhofer also served in the Clinton Administration for six years as a senior advisor at the Department of the Interior and special assistant at the White House Council on Environment Quality. He is widely regarded for his knowledge of energy and environment policy, his strategic thinking, and his ability to advance policy efforts that received bipartisan support.
