Michael Lynch is an independent consultant specializing in providing consulting services in the oil and gas industry. Mr. Lynch provides consultancy on reservoir engineering, reserves estimation, production forecasting, and redevelopment planning for depleted oil fields. He has been a practicing petroleum engineer for more than 50 years. After serving as a photogrammetrist in the Army Air Corps, Mr. Lynch began his career as an oil well core analyst in West Texas. He has worked for Chevron, a large international drilling contractor (SEDCO); and has held supervisory, managerial, and executive positions in the US and abroad. In 1985, with a partner in Lisbon, Mr. Lynch organized Catermar Petroleum Engineering Services to provide drilling and production supervision to international oil companies. During his career, he drilled and completed over 100 oil and gas wells in Texas, Oklahoma, California, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Algeria, and the Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Lynch holds a BS in Petroleum Engineering from The University of Texas. He is a registered engineer in the State of Texas and member of Society of Petroleum Engineers and Institute of Energy in London. Mr. Lynch has written four historical oil field novels under the pen name, Linton Morrell. His first novel, Steel Storage, published in London in 1998. (This is me - Update Profile)

AGR Petroleum Services will begin a £2 million exploratory campaign in the North Falkland basin. Desire Petroleum and Rockhopper Exploration are the operators for this six well project. Desire has 4 prospects and Rockhopper has 2. AGR is in talks with a third operator as well. The first well will be spudded around the middle of February with the 3rd generation semisubmersible Ocean Guardian owned by Diamond Offshore Drilling Company. The campaign will last 5 months depending on weather.

Brigham's Jackson 35-34 #1H produced 3,540 bbl/day from the Bakken formation. The well was completed with 30 fracture stages in a long lateral that was filled with with ceramic proppants. Brigham's rapid pace of development in the Ross and Rough Rider project areas are proceeding with six wells in progress and three locations rigging up. Brigham believes that they have delineated prime development acreage west of Nesson anticline. Drilling time now cut to 18 days.

The Shtokman Development AG consortium announced on February 5 that it will delay the startup of the Arctic gas project. Natural gas will begin flowing to Europe in 2016. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) will start in 2017. It a delay of about 3 years. A final pipeline decision will be made in March of 2011 and an LNG plant decision by the end of that year. Total and Statoil are part of the consortium. Experts have questioned Gazprom's financial and technical ability to complete the project.
SONIC may get another shot at an Alberta oil sands upgrader

SONIC Technology Solutions has formed a joint venture with a private company in Albania to build and operate a 1,000 bbl/day heavy oil upgrader. A shareholder and licensing agreement will be executed within 30 days. Albania has the largest heavy oil fields in Europe. Crude oil recovery is low and the fields are under redevelopment by several companies The heavy oil has a high sulphur content. SONIC had to withdraw from an upgrading process in Alberta, Canada because of the price plunge in 2009.

Royal Dutch Shell reported 4th quarter earnings of $1,961 million, compared with a loss of $2.810 million in Q-4 of 2008. Full year earnings were $12,518 million compared to $26,277 million for 2008. Dividends for 2009 totalled $10.5 million. Capital investment for Q-4 2009 was $8.8 billion making total for 2009of $29 billion. Return on capital invested was 8% and gearing was 15.5% up from 5.9% at year end 2008. Cost reduction is now embedded in day-to-day operations. 5,000 employees leave.
