The implications are clear. Even though Microsoft isn't shivering in fear as of yet, there are viable options out there. The only issue is these options are not marketed like MS Office and Windows.
Point one is that Ebay is in financial trouble. The second point is that some of it could have been avoided. The third is - the problem can be partially resolved, but it will take time, money, and will loose Ebay some of its "charm."
