Mark Yarchoan joined Close Concerns in June, 2007 after graduating from Amherst College with a degree in neuroscience. He is interested in health policy and medicine, and he pursued these interests throughout his undergraduate studies. In 2005, Mark received the Hotchkiss/Patrick Fellowship to fund his research at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH, NIH), where he researched the cause of diskinesia in patients with Parkinson's disease undergoing L-dopa treatment. Mark''s thesis work investigated the underlying mechanism of a phenomenon called "supernormality" that occurs in the nerve cord of the earthworm. For this thesis work he received the James Olds Memorial Neuroscience Award. Since arriving at Close Concerns, he has covered numerous diabetes and obesity conferences and written and edited 92 diabetes and obesity-focused literature reviews.
