Marc Israel is a Partner at Macfarlanes in London. He specializes in a wide range of competition and antitrust work. Mr. Israel advises clients active in a wide variety of industry sectors, as well as a number of private equity houses. He regularly represents clients before the UK's Office of Fair Trading and has been involved in merger investigations before the UK Competition Commission. The case was the first successful appeal of a merger clearance decision under the Enterprise Act 2002. Mr. Israel also deals regularly with the European Commission, representing clients before the European Commission's Merger Task Force. He also advises on State Aid and the application of Articles 81 and 82 of the EC Treaty and their UK equivalents. Mr. Israel has recently advised Virgin in connection with the acquisition by British Sky Broadcasting of a 17.9% stake in ITV, securing the first ever intervention by the UK Government on "media public interest" grounds.
