Joseph Bass, MD, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Medicine and Neurobiology at Northwestern University in Illinois and Division Head of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare. He is also the Director of a federally-funded basic research program on obesity, diabetes, and lipid disease at Northwestern. Dr. Bass has expertise in treatment of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia, as well as evaluation of pre-clinical drug discovery. He oversees the largest clinical endocrinology practice division in the US, and is also active in new applications of DPP-IV inhibitors, incretins (Byetta, LAR, liraglutide), MCH inhibitors, and melanocortinergic modulators. Dr. Bass consults on obesity and diabetes drug discovery for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries and has co-founded two companies in diabetes and obesity compound development.
