Mr. John Ryan

Council Member Biography

John W. Ryan is a Partner in the Intellectual Property Group and the leader of the Patent Practice Group in Sullivan & Worcester’s Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Ryan’s practice focuses on the chemical, biotechnology, medical device and pharmaceutical industries. His clients have varied from Fortune 100 to small start-up companies. As the former vice president and chief patent counsel for IGEN International, Inc., Mr. Ryan has hands-on experience in the creation and management of patent portfolios and also the day-to-day issues of in-house positions. With over 20 years of law firm and in-house experience, Mr. Ryan has practiced in both the transactional and litigation side of intellectual property, including counseling and opinion work, e.g., infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions, licensing, litigation, portfolio management and valuation, and patent preparation and prosecution. He has extensive experience in drafting various agreements such as research and development, licensing, clinical trial, co-promotion, joint venture and collaboration agreements. He also was an adjunct professor at Albany Law School teaching a course on the licensing of intellectual property. (This is me - Update Profile)
