John F. Jacobs is Director of Notebook PC Market Research at DisplaySearch, a consultancy focusing on display technologies. He has over ten years of experience in global supply management, material requirements planning, procurement, business analysis and market research. Before joining DisplaySearch, Mr. Jacobs held positions at Apple Computer, where he was responsible for the supply side of flat panel display systems, ranging from handheld displays to wide screen high-definition monitors. He also served as Apple's Global Supply Manager for DRAMs, and led their strategic sourcing, pricing and contract negotiations, supply base assessment, and investigation of new technologies. Before that, Mr. Jacobs held business analyst positions at Quantum, where he managed their market research, supply and demand forecasting, and the development and application of business metrics and assessment tools. A 32GB SSD costs computer makers ~$300 at today's prices. Compared to ~$15 for an 30GB hard disk drive. A ten fold decrease in price will be a challenge.
