L. John Iani is Partner at Van Ness Feldman in Seattle, Washington, where he provides counseling on project development, energy, natural resources, fisheries, and environmental issues before Congress, federal and state agencies, regulatory bodies, and the courts. Previously, he served as the Regional Administrator for Region 10 of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). While he was there, Mr. Iani was responsible for managing EPA’s programs in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. He took the lead on implementing several initiatives, including a compromise with the U.S. Forest Service that resolved environmental concerns for harvesting fire-damaged salvage timber; water quality programs to protect endangered salmon; and implementing enhanced and streamlined environmental safeguards for future oil, gas, and mining development in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Before that, Mr. Iani was VP and General Counsel at UniSea and served as President of the Pacific Seafood Processors Association. He also served on the Secretary of Commerce’s Marine Fisheries Advisory Committee and participated in committees for the North Pacific Fishery Management Council. Mr. Iani began his career on Capitol Hill, first as a legislative aide to Representative Don Young (R-AK) and later as a Senior Legislative Assistant to Senator Frank Murkowski (R-AK).
