Mr. John Bechtold

Council Member Biography

John Bechtold is an independent Coal and Energy Consultant providing services to a wide variety of clients including Hill & Associates, a premier coal consultancy firm based in Annapolis, Maryland. He specializes in handling issues facing coal suppliers and consumers throughout the region. Formerly, Mr. Bechtold served as Manager of Fuels at Reliant Energy, Mid-Atlantic Region. He was responsible for managing and procuring approximately 9.5 million tons of bituminous coal per year and has considerable knowledge of utility power plant operations. Mr. Bechtold has considerable experience in managing and technical roles in both state and federal regulatory agencies and also has extensive experience in the permitting and planning departments of both surface and underground mining companies.
