VMware unveils its cloud OS; Wants to be a bridge for the enterprise | blogs.zdnet.com
The best new feature of VMware v4.0 (dubbed vShphere) is the inclusion of "FT" - Fault Tolerance. Essentially, if a primary server fails, the 2nd "Shadow" server will seamlessly assume the role of the primary server. This means - zero - downtime. There are certain caveats, such as shared storage is required and a high speed link between the 2 servers is assumed, but IF you need true fault tolerance, this is a great idea.

How much data centers really cost | www.networkworld.com
What technology will businesses purchase in 2009? Most people and firms are concerned about technology spending slowdowns based on current macroeconimic trends. Surveys and comments all suggest a slowdown at best, or a major stop at worst. So if businesses will invest next year, the ROI (return on investment) MUST be faster and more assured than ever.
Virtualization - Desktops - Servers - Storage

Embracing the World of Virtualization | www.minyanville.com
Virtualization is rapidly gaining ground in medium and large firms. Many have deployed VMWare which enables many Operating Systems to reside on a single Server. This technology is being installed every day in more and more date centers. Maximizing CPU utilization is a mainstream topic. Citrix enables dozens of users to have "virtual" desktops, supplied seamlessly by a single server. All a user needs is a browser, point to the Citrix server and voila, he/she has a full secured set of desktop applications. Storage is now virtualized by software. For example, multiple servers attach to a "box of disks" also called a SAN, Storage Area Network. This SAN removes the concept of "these disks belong with this server". All servers share all the disks.

Opinion: And tape walked quietly from the spotlight | www.computerworld.com
We have also seen our clients planning for data recovery under varying scenarios. As a Systems Integration Firm, we address backup and DR challenges from SMB and Enterpise clients. Data is growing rapidly and clients need ways to backup without impacting production and DR solutions that work and dont' cost an arm and a leg. We use point products from MS, Symantec, OVerland, HP, DoubleTake, VMWare and a few others that help solve these issues in a cost effective mannner.
