Edwin Laird is Managing Director of Air Cargo Management Group (ACMG), a company he founded in 1978. Mr. Laird has more than 37 years of experience in the airline industry. Prior to forming ACMG, he worked for the Boeing Company as a manager in the Air Freight Systems Office and was responsible for sales campaigns for the 747-200 freighter in the late 1970s. Mr. Laird has held management positions in the cargo sales departments at Swissair and Overseas National Airways (ONA), where he gained expertise in US and international airline operations and cargo market requirements. He is a Trustee of the Seattle-based Museum of Flight, and The International Air Cargo Association. Mr. Laird holds a BS in International Finance from Boston University. (This is me - Update Profile)

The merging of Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines, along with other future mergers, will have implications for the transportation of freight as well as passengers. For the past fifteen years US legacy combination carriers have not been major players in the air freight industry, consolidation may change that. On the passenger side, the long-awaited consolidation in the US legacy combination carrier business could be the watershed event that would make “full-service” full-service again.
