Council Member Biography

Edward Ettin was most recently Deputy Director of the Division of Research at the Federal Reserve in Washington, DC, where he was in charge of the Economics of Bank Regulation, Micro Banking Research, and the Economics of Merger and Competitive Policy in Banking. At the Federal Reserve, Mr. Ettin was, at various times, in charge of research in banking, capital markets, and payments systems. He was a member of the staff of the Federal Open Market Committee. He led the development of the Fed’s Payments System Risk Reduction Policy. In the 80’s and early 90’s, Mr. Ettin was Deputy Staff Director for Monetary and Financial Policy before returning to the Division of Research as Deputy Director, where he was in charge of the Economics of Bank Regulation, Micro Banking Research, and the Economics of Merger and Competitive Policy in Banking. He led the early development of the Basel II capital proposals. Mr. Ettin also was a primary senior staff liaison on major reforms in banking— such as the Monetary Control and Gramm-Leach-Bliley Acts. He was an advisor on banking and regulatory policies to both Chairmen Volker and Greenspan, and an advisor on monetary policy to Chairman Volker. (This is me - Update Profile)
