Dea Belazi, PharmD, MPH, PAHM, is currently a Consultant working with health plans and pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Belazi is also a Consulting Practice Leader for Wolters Kluwer Health- Managed Care Group. Previously, he was the Senior Director of Pharmacy Services for Independence Blue Cross, a large commercial and Medicare health plan in Pennsylvania. Prior to that, Dr. Belazi was the Associate Vice President of Clinical Programs for Keystone and AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plans. His experience includes pharmaco economics, outcomes research, epidemiology, and pharmacy benefit management. His responsibilities include national formulary management, disease management programs, effectiveness studies of pharmaceuticals, and pharmacy benefit program implementations. Pfizers failure on Exubera were not of safety issues, or complicated device, or even consumer marketing problems. Their biggest issue that brought failure was the lack of payer coverage. Almost no payer in the US added Exubera to their formulary or saw any value over injectable insulin...
