Alastair Carruthers, MA, BM, BCh, FRCP(LON), FRCPC, is President and Owner of Carruthers Dermatology Centre and Clinical Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of British Columbia, Canada. He is also the immediate past President of American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Carruthers did his residency in dermatology and trained in dermatologic surgery. During his 30 years of practice, he has made several major contributions to the field of dermatology. Foremost among these is the use of BOTOX® for cosmetic applications, a discovery he made with his wife, Dr. Jean Carruthers, in 1987. Dr. Carruthers has also worked extensively on the problem of facial lipoatrophy associated with HIV infection. He has over 100 published articles and authored numerous text books.
