IBM's strategy to target India is obvious

April 14, 2009

IBM Targets India to Beat Rivals at Their Own Game (Update2) | www.bloomberg.com

Looks like IBM wants to take the advantage of recession in USA,  Europe to address the high cost resource issues and compliment that by expanding base in India. The Indian origin IT companies hve already expanded their base in  multiples of 100% growth in last 2-3 years and provided stiff competition to IBM which IBM agrees. Along with IBM other MNCs such as Accenture ,EDS,HP have already gone for massive expansions, mergers and acquisitions hence IBM is compelled to do this now. The Indian govt has also opened up lots of strategic IT opportunities. This is also one of reason for IBM to pitch in for larger deals. I think IBM has lost opportunity to capatalize on by acquiring Satyam which would have given IBM a cool growth path and readymade expanded base in India. There is still big opportunity for IBM to look for acquiring Indian IT firm since the valuation is currently attractive and it will be difficult for certain IT firms to sustain during recessionary period

MTNL ans BSNL are not well equipped to take the latest technology to the Indian business

April 13, 2009

MTNL, BSNL get poor response to 3G | www.business-standard.com

The main reasons for MTNL, BSNL to get poor response to 3G  is basically as follows: The market is not ready : Market is still in the process of absorbing the basic key features of mobile telephony such as SMS,e-mail,voice calls . Hence the learning curve for any new technology and its feature  may be little longer. Cost prohabition: Market in India always look for cost effective devices and at the current situation cost is not affordable to buy 3G devices. Representation of 3G Technology: The organization like MTNL and VSNL generally lacks in doing the appropriate representation of technology to the media with its distinctive features. They need to think for much better events to launch such products. Trust on Service Support: MTNL and BSNL need to create lot of trust among the customers for "after sales support". The credibility of organizations to provide service support( because of multiple features) after sales is questionnable.Sophasticated service structure is needed
