Wal-Mart cannot provide growth opportunities based on the way they operate their stores from a staffing point. Target has already proved that by providing better and more staffing at all of their stores has provided substantial growth and much better looking stores. Shrinkage will still be an issues unless they change their staffing strategy and raise their standards.

!.  No noticable change in the quality or variety of merchandise in any of the stores I have been in over the last year. 2.  Gas prices have driven people that normally shop at places like Macy's to the Penney stores. 3. The same old problem is that there are never any staff members at any of the registers even on Saturday mornings. 4. Sales are driven by the huge discounts and savings they are having this year compared to last year.

Targeted free standing bakery cafes will be considered for future drive-thrus.

With the delivery of Via Panera, Crispani will be next.

Look for many more Paneras near each other to saturate the market and take the pressure away from some of the high volume cafes.

I have seen the "Crispani" rolled out in two of very big markets in Virginia, and it has been a hit by double digit comp sales.

One market had television advertising and one just opened up with a soft opening. Franchises will be rolling out the product over the next several months until all Panera's' will be selling Crispani.
