ArcelorMittal sees sluggish European and US markets in 2010 | steelguru.com
This is a valid question given the current economics. We have seen massive down turns in all kinds of construction over the last year and massive lay offs that go along with this. Inventories are well down and many mills and ware houses are holding their breath.

Defense veto threatened over F-35 fighter engine | thehill.com
I tend to agree that having a dual sourcing concept for this engine is important. Should, heavens forbid, we get into another real fighting war with lets say North Korea, we will need to boost the production of the JSF and the production of its power plant. Having two sources would become critical in a time of war. We should look at WWII, Vietnam and the current conflicts as examples of how critical it is to have multiple sources for the tools of war. This should be done on a contingency basis with 10% of the production going to GE and 90 to Pratt. This way, both are making engines and both have the capacity to expand if need be. If Pratt goes belly up, then GE is still in the picture and then we will need to find a new #2.

Airbus Said to Be Seeking $5 Billion State Loans for A350 Plane | www.bloomberg.com
THe author seems to have forgotten that the EU is an organization made up of strong individual personalities and that social welfare is the name of the game in the EU. Keeping jobs in the EU is critical to the safety and security of the region. After all heath care, education and many other institutions are government sponsored and tax payer funded. Why not the airlines and Airbus? Don't we do the same thing in the US? We had several air craft manufactures and this competitive environment was and still is fully supported by generous funding by the US government. This comes in large measure from funding the military side of these businesses and what is learned there is applied to the domestic side and this valuable asset is then shared as lower more competitive air craft costs. Yes, the A350 is in trouble but given the technical complexity and the cultural complexity, I'm not surprised that the company is living at home.

Siemens expects to boost cleantech revenues | cleantech.com
In my estimation Siemens has been a green company for many years but has simply not identified itself as such. Through the 1990's it was working on and developed more efficient fuel injectors with a radically reduced fuel usage and a better performance profile along with an integrated fuel system improved fuel milage in many of the automobiles it went into. Siemens has been on the cutting edge of Solar and Wind technologies and has been working to develop lighting systems that use reduced energy. Their hydro-power generators are among the most efficient in the world which is why they are going into the 3 rivers dam in China. Siemens building systems, Airport systems and other integrated systems are the gold standard for energy efficiency. So, why is it only now getting on the band wagon, for the sake of showing the world that it too is competitive in the Green world.

Wind and alternative energy development.

Use of wind energy expected to grow dramatically | www.townhall.com
Wind is a key alternative energy where it is available and will not cause a disruption for migratory birds. We need to keep their needs in mind as well. However, there are many windy areas where these systems can and do work and these sites should be expanded. In addition to this, thin film solarvoltaics should also be accelerated as this has the highest potential of meeting our energy needs on the long term. These thin film systems have grown in efficientcy to the point now where they are economical for large scale applications. In addition to this, the development of solar thermal and wave energy also need to be expanded to provide options to those area where wind is not. I would say, lets stay away from Nuke since we still have no adequate way to store the waste.
