20 years into the future of Venezuela

April 20, 2007

Koinange: Mugabe smashed dreams of Zimbabwe, all Africans | www.cnn.com

I saw Mr. Mugabe in 1980 being acclaimed in England after the independence of Rhodesia to become the African Republic of Zimbabwe.

I saw him again in 2006 receiving from Mr. Chavez the replica of the Simon Bolivar saber one of the big honors that Venezuela gives to outstanding personalities and world leaders.

Without pretending to be a Oracle you can foresee a possible future to what Venezuela could become just by replacing, on the excellent article by CNN, the names of Mugabe and Zimbabwe by those of Chavez and Venezuela.

Another consequence that tyrannies bring upon the already difficult situation of many nations is famine as land that can be used for producing food are mismanaged and rendered unproductive.

Energy and Politics

Chavez Blows Venezuela's Fortune | news.yahoo.com

There is a push to bio fuels as the way of cutting dependency from foreign oil

There are still large oil reserves in the world for many years of reliable supply

Political turnover in many oil producer countries are endangering oil supplies and stimulating poverty which in turn will cause more distress in already unstable countries.

International Politics is doing very little to solve those problems which are causing famines and war and hindering development in others areas such as science, arts, space exploration, education and alternative fuels which are needed to face world’s challenges to come

Hazards associate to nuclear energy are commensurate to those of global warning and pollution

Science advances in physics and engineering are making nuclear cheap and safe

Countries in Europe and Asia are beneficiaries of nuclear for long time now with not accidents and lot less environmental impact that those not using nuclear

Worst treat to nuclear energy is terrorism

Political persecution and freedom restrain to those opposing Chavez
Oil industry lost half it production capacity
Break down of moral values being replaced by a person cult: CHAVEZ
The script mandate expulsion foreign companies
Fighting the USA as the evil
Closing up the country
Violence against their own people
Confrontation as a mean of covering up for corruption, poverty, misery.
All of the above under complacent International Organizations, Artists , Newspapers and Politician profiting from Mr. Chavez Cuban Revolution

Project Management

April 9, 2007

Exxon unveils 20 projects for next three years | www.msnbc.msn.com

Growing worldwide energy demands are pushing big oil companies and countries to invest in new projects to increase oil production and refining.
While USA DOD is putting in place clear guidelines in the way their project must be managed ussing EVA and related techniques to achieve a better control of their project, the oil industry is not demanding any of the profit generating methodologies now available to manage the projects.
Managers in the Oil industry need to be trained in Scope of Work preparation(SOW), Work Break Down(WBS), Earned Value Analysis(EVA) and the usage and power available in modern planning software.
It is a open question if there are enough qualified Project Managers(PM) and engineers to cope the demand of new projects.
